Background on ArmeniaSince the fall of the Soviet Union, Armenia has been struggling to reinvent itself despite the obstacles of a war with Azerbaijan, an energy crisis, a blockade by neighboring countries, and the emigration of many citizens. The lack of long term vision for building a viable social or economic base, corruption, and lack of a viable work ethic continue to plague Armenia. It was against this backdrop that the co-founders decided to open the Yerevan Center. In the Fall of 2000, the Center opened its doors to train open minded students in calling, character, competence, and community so that they could not only dream new dreams for Armenia, but also be equipped to lead others in the fulfillment of such dreams. The Center admits students, usually between the ages of 19-25, from a variety of disciplines. The CLD program expanded to Armenia's second largest city of Gyumri in June 2002. Since its inception in 2000, the CLD has trained over 120 students in ethical leadership strategies. AffiliationsThe Center for Leadership Development is an independent non-profit foundation registered pursuant to the laws of the Republic of Armenia and is not affiliated with any political, religious, or other organization. |
